Why is resilience an important ability and something that should be one of the strategies available to you to stay sane and positive amid change? In today’s world, change is non-stop, challenges can hit us out of the blue when we least expect them, and the pressure to do more with less seems to be the rule rather than the exception. Al Siebert (who is director of The Resiliency Center and author of The Resiliency Advantage: Master Change, Thrive Under Pressure and Bounce Back From Setbacks) defines resilience as a, “person’s ability to absorb high levels of disruptive change, bounce back, and even excel in times of change and uncertainty, without acting in dysfunctional ways.” And, the ability to bounce back quickly, to adapt, to thrive, is known as resilience. Ever notice how some people seem to be able to bounce back quickly no matter happens to them? The ability to do this is especially helpful when change enters one’s life.
